Book of the week! Beegu - Alexis Deacon
I bought this book whilst at University studying children's book Illustration. The use of an alien as a main character who see's our world from an outsiders perspective was fascinating and made me think more about how a child see's the world that we take for granted.
Basic plot: Beegu is a child alien who gets accidently left behind on a trip to Earth. Beegu explores and tries to find friends and make connections in this unknown and alien world. There are high points and low points and we follow Beegu as she tries to make contact with her parents again.
There are very few words and a lovely if slightly odd rhythm that makes reading this a pleasure and means that as children get older they can easily pic it up and join in even if they can't actually read it yet as such.
The illustrations and characterisation is delightful and some (the one below being a great example) never fail to make me smile!
The ending is lovely and sets you up nicely for cuddles and bedtime at the end of a good day out!
The illustrations are charming and as always with Alexis Deacon they are dynamic and fun to look at. Lots of pictures to talk about with your little one and the characters have great expressions whilst still looking realistic.
If you've liked what I've shared you can get the book here:
But please do come back and let me know what you and most importantly your little one's think!
